June 2020 Newsletter

COVID-19 is still sadly dominating all our activities.  At BEARR we are trying to do as much as we can working from home, and hope you find our information, publications and other services a useful resource at this time.

In this issue we have two articles on aspects of COVID-19 in EECA:Our BEARR Volunteer, Nathan Dampier’s survey of the latest stats, with a special focus on Russia and Georgia BEARR Trustee, Janet Gunn’s look at how the virus is affecting migrants across the regionWe are also highlighting some valuable advice from Age International about COVID-19 and the elderly, which applies worldwide.

We have two major items of BEARR News: the results of our 2020 Small Grants Scheme (with an appeal for funds to help support more projects)details of our Annual Lecture on 7th July – this year it’s online so accessible throughout the region as well as in the UK and beyondWe have project reports from two 2019 grantees, in Armenia (look out for some brilliant photography), and Ukraine.

And our Chairman has written a thoughtful piece about how BEARR approaches project evaluation – as a learning rather than judgemental process. This methodology has been developed by BEARR Trustee Megan Bick. Megan has a wealth of experience  working across the region with international and regional development organisations.
