5000 school volunteer teams to be created in Russia
03.04.2018
A detailed programme for promoting voluntary work among schoolchildren has begun in Russia.
The project is being rolled out in several stages, i.e. creating a network of school volunteer teams, developing training and information materials for schoolchildren and teachers, and carrying out activities aimed at forming a community of volunteers, reports the Federation’s Public Chamber.
“The federal programme will help create a group of young leaders in the volunteer movement who will develop socially important projects across Russia”, said Artem Metelev, Chair of the Association of Volunteer Centres and a member of the Public Chamber.
The organisers have selected one school in 10 cities across the country, namely Belgorod, Vologda, Irkutsk, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Kurgan, Lipetsk, Novosibirsk, Saransk and Saratov. Schoolchildren and teachers will carry out five creative tasks over a 10-week period. The results of their work will then be placed in the public domain and the outcomes subject to critical evaluation. The best teams will receive travel vouchers to the All-Russian Children’s Centre “Ocean” to attend a national meeting of school volunteer teams which will be held in Moscow in December.
“The first step was a joint project involving the Association of Volunteer Centres and the Russian schoolchildren movement called a “League of School Volunteer Teams” which is part of the overall Volunteer of the Year programme in Russia. One of its results is the creation of 5,000 teams of young volunteers across the country”, said Metelev.
One of the programme’s key stages will be the involvement of schoolchildren who have been successful in federal competitions and already established leaders from the schools’ voluntary school movement in a topic-related session in the “Artek” Centre.
The schoolchildren will attend workshops organised by volunteer professionals, show off their projects, receive expert feedback and create their own volunteer teams. All this will be achieved as part of the “Development of civic activity and volunteering among children” project with the help of a subsidy provided under the Presidential Grants Scheme.
