25th– 26th October- Annual Conference for
the Donors Forum ‘Charity Work in Russia: the Principle Pathways of
Development’
The annual conference for the Donors Forum is an open
discussion platform for current issues relating to charity work. The conference
is not only for Donors Forum members (those who have chosen charity sector work
as their occupation), but also for anyone else who is interested. This year,
the conference was held in the Aerostar
hotel. Leading economists, social activists, state representatives, businesses
and charitable trusts presented their views on the development of philanthropy
in Russia over the past ten years. Additionally, they examined the current
situation and made forecasts for the future.
The questions addressed included: which objectives
have been achieved, and which still require solutions? Which causes have
attracted donations and which may become popular in the foreseeable future? How
rigorous is the legislation regulating charities’ activities? Which guiding
principles form the basis of Russian philanthropy and what determines them?
Individual consideration was given to the work of Russian funds’ target
capitals: the attraction of funding, an overview of current practices, an
analysis of possible areas of development and many others. Over the course of
the two days, the task of the conference was not only to discuss the results of
ten years of charity work in Russia, but also to present prizes to the winners
of the photography competition ‘Donors Forum – 10 Years’ and to the winners of
a student contest for the best creative depiction of charity work in Russia.
