Inclusive Arts Festival 2023 held in Moscow

12.04.2023

A festival for children and teenagers with disabilities was held on 8 April at the ZIL Cultural Centre by the Colour of Life charity.

The event was attended by 150 children – pupils from remedial institutions in Moscow and those being cared for by the charity, together with their teachers, tutors and parents, supported by 50 volunteers.

Also present were Moscow colleges that provide training for teachers working with disabled children, tutors and students from the capital’s higher education institutions specialising in psychological and pedagogical support, and experts from the Colour of Life charity.

Thirty workshops were held. Children made drawings, painted toys, made decorations, took part in educational games and tried their hand at being fashion designers, beauticians, manicurists and hairdressers.

Those taking part received souvenirs from the charity’s partners: stationery from the company Comus and the Generation Ashan charity and sweets from Orion International Euro.

Some impressions from participants in the event

“We have been enjoying painting toys, drawing and playing music! There is so much to do – a  lot of which we haven’t got round to doing yet. We would love to come to more of these festivals. Klim really likes to draw and we also enjoyed listening to music at the charity’s educational centre. It is probably too early for a child to choose a hobby but events such as these are great in providing ideas and opportunities where children can have a go at different kinds of creative activity and find something that suits them”.

“This was my first time at such an event – it was so enjoyable and great fun. I did lots of things and lost count of the workshops I attended. You can run in a race and receive a present for taking part. It got me thinking about my future career – I really like hairdressing”.

“Our college is a regular fixture at these festivals. Today, we are holding introductory workshops on shoemaking and graphic design. Our new workshop on floristry is proving very popular and attracting large queues. The children are particularly interested in working with fresh flowers”.
