Deputy Health Minister Kaarmanbek Baidavletov informed members at a recent meeting of the country’s Supreme Council of a shortage of 5,000 doctors in Kyrgyzstan hospitals.
The official explained how the authorities were dealing with the problem. The Health Ministry is negotiating with presidential deputies in the regions. In some districts, local authorities are paying the utilities of young specialists.
Baidavletov explained that under current regulations there should be one doctor per 1,500 people, and that the problem is not only confined to regional and rural hospitals but also to those centrally.
