A one-day training course for Moscow universities “Five Keys” will teach participants how to encourage students to take part in voluntary work and how to work with them.
The programme will cover five key aspects of organising volunteer activities (attracting, training, supporting, encouraging and retaining volunteers), which have been adapted to mirror practices employed in higher education institutions.
The course includes an introduction to volunteer management skills, live interaction, an opportunity to ask questions of invited experts, a business game and networking. Each attendee will be able to devise an action plan for developing an initiative in their own university, as well as getting to know and swapping contacts with colleagues to discuss future joint initiatives.
“Organisers of volunteer centres at Moscow universities can be middlemen for engagement in a world of good causes, as well as encouraging people to implement creative and important projects. The development of interesting events and programmes, together with a system of incentives, can attract more students in helping to resolve a variety of different issues”, said Alexander Levit, Director of the Mosvolonter resource centre.
The intensive training course will be a face-to-face event to be held on 15 February, with registration open until the 6th. In submitting their application, the heads of university volunteer centres will have to answer a few questions about student volunteering and highlight their expectations from taking part in the course.
The Five Keys university event is one element of a training programme for organisers of volunteer activities being organised by the Mosvolonter resource centre. Three more courses are planned during the year – for schools, colleges and CSOs.
