Applications from candidates nominated by non-profit organisations will now be accepted until 14th November 2016.

Openings of the application window for membership of the Civic Councils supported by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Federal Agency for State Property Management, the Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs, the Federal Accreditation Service, the Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology have now been announced, confirms the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Applications will be accepted from October 24th to November 14th, 2016. Consideration of applications received and the announcement of the outcome shall take place within 14 days of the application deadline.

The ‘updating’ of Civic Councils has continued since it began in 2015. Under new Civic Council registration rules, 75% of members of the new Councils are to be decided upon by the Civic Chamber, and 25% are to be decided upon by the Government Expert Council under the Government of the Russian Federation. The new rules have, for instance, also led to the creation of the Civic Council supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of North Caucasus Affairs and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation had proposed to allow Civic Councils the right to give their opinion on which of the rules and proposals being developed by the government they judged to be the most socially significant.
