Public Chamber prepares proposals to support SONGOs in Russia
Proposals will be forwarded to the Russian government and the State Duma.
According to Elena Topoleva, head of the Public Chamber’s Commission for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector and Support to CSOs, the Chamber has received several reports warning that CSOs are in need of urgent support due to the difficult economic situation. Prices for equipment and machinery have risen sharply and there have also been problems in CSOs making payments. In addition, the number of people in need of CSO help such as refugees and those from disadvantaged backgrounds has increased dramatically as has the demand for psychological support.
“Among the proposals being considered are lower insurance contribution rates for CSOs, deferral of reporting requirements, a moratorium on planned audits and grants for reimbursement of labour costs. Perhaps we should also think about organising new competitions that support core activities rather than individual projects”, said Topoleva.
