The number of winning applications for the first round of the 2018 Presidential Grants competition has exceeded last year’s figure.

According to the Presidential Grants Foundation, its Joint Expert Committee has produced a summary of the results of an independent assessment of projects for the first contest of the year. Applications were evaluated by 681 experts. 19,300 expert assessments were carried out over the course of a month with at least two projects being considered by each expert.

The Presidential Grants Foundation has this year been accepting applications for the implementation of long-term projects of up to three years. 200 project applications were submitted to the first competition of the year which also included a new grant category, “Identifying and supporting young talent in culture and the arts”, in which 84 NGO applications were received.

According to experts, the quality of applications is continuing to rise, adding that those organisations which were unsuccessful in last year’s competitions had a greater chance of winning this time around.

The list of winners will be finalised by 1 June with the results published on the Presidential Grants Foundation’s website.

The two competitions held in 2017 resulted in NGOs receiving support for 3,213 projects totalling more than 6.6 billion roubles. The amount of funds allocated for 2018 has been increased to 8 billion roubles.
