Registration open for final Community Forum

Registration is open for the final “Community” forum

Moscow 15/09/2016

3500 active citizens from all over Russia will meet at the Moscow Expocentre in Krasnaya Presnya 3-4 November. The forum will consist of organised discussion forums, lectures, master classes and exhibitions. Applications for participation in the forum will be accepted until 25 October.

By tradition, “Community” will be one of the highlights of the celebrations to mark National Unity Day. Application forms can be submitted on the official forum website. “Today we are open to accept applications for participation in the final “Community” forum – a large-scale event for active individuals and non-commercial organisations, says the Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Alexander Brechalov. Its participants are people who do not complain about the problems and inaction of local authorities but rather take matters into their own hands and show by their own actions that the voice of the civil society activist can be decisive. They successfully implement projects that are of interest to them and to society. We, in turn, will respond to the requests of these citizens and give them practical skills. ”

According to Alexander Brechalov, the main objective of the “Community” forum is to bring the importance of civic engagement to a new level, to draw the government’s attention to the importance of the third sector.

Prticipants in discussion platforms at the “Community” district forums in 2016 discussed the main problems of the non-profit sector in different areas. From difficulties in the registration of NGOs to the lack of facilities at resource centres in some areas. After expert analysis and classification, suggestions from active citizens were included in the ‘Concept for promoting socially oriented NGOs’, which will be presented at the final forum.

On the first day of the forum, there will be discussion forums, master classes and motivational lectures, and also an exhibition of activist projects and their presentations. On the second day, the members of the University of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation will have access to lectures and master classes by leading experts, philanthropists, and government and business representatives.

Traditionally, on 4 November the “I am a citizen!” prize in the field of civic engagement will be awarded at the Public Chamber. Each of the winners from the 15 nominations will receive a monetary prize of 200,000 roubles.
