Seventy-one people have been excluded from the list at their own request.
On 3 September, TASS reported that Russia’s Justice Minister, Konstantin Chuichenko, told colleagues in his department that 25% of all foreign agents have so far been removed from the register. The news agency says that “the law has a very simple and standard procedure for withdrawing people from the register”.
“In order to do this, it is sufficient to establish that an individual has ceased the whole range of his/her work as a foreign agent before being removed from the list. This process can be initiated both by the foreign agent themselves and the Federation’s Ministry of Justice”.
