On 14 January, MTS-Bank released its research into Russians’ spending patterns over the New Year festive period. The research showed that from 1 to 10 January 2021, Russians’ charitable donations were 2.2 times larger than in the same period in 2020.
The number of payments made to ‘betting games’ similarly increased, particularly through purchasing lottery tickets.
The number of cinema tickets halved. Last year, going to the cinema was the most popular form of entertainment during the New Year holidays, this year it was replaced by subscription to online cinemas and streaming services.
According to MTS-Bank’s data, Russians also used courier services, such as for food delivery, 3.9 times more often than in the previous year, and online dating services 2.3 times more than in 2020.
The research draws on anonymous bank card data from MTS-Bank’s clients in regions throughout the country.
