At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, MP Aisuluu Mamashova reported that the state crisis centre in Bishkek had not opened its doors to women and children affected by domestic violence in the spring of 2024.

According to the MP, no money has been allocated to run the centre.

“All the crisis centres in the country depend on funding from international donors. But because of some political processes, the donor money has stopped coming in, and the crisis centres need help. I would like to point out that the centres are located in rented buildings. With the increase in family violence, all the crisis centres are full, and the state centre is still not operational,” said Aisuluu Mamashova.

She noted that the crisis centre situation in Osh is particularly acute. But neither the mayor of the city nor the president’s plenipotentiary in the region wants to support the crisis centres.

“The state must support crisis centres, because women with children who are victims of domestic violence have nowhere else to go. They also turn to these centres for legal and psychological help,” the MP added.
