Russia moved up in the World Giving Index to 30th place

The index ranked Russia 67thlast year and 124th six years ago.

The updated index reflects the state of private philanthropy in 2021. The survey was conducted in 114 countries, representing about 90% of the world’s adult population.

This is the highest Russia has been ranked in the index’s history. All three indicators improved in Russia over the last year:

  • helping strangers — 71% (57% in 2020),
  • donating to charities — 42% (28% in 2020),
  • volunteering — 24% (14% in 2020).

The cumulative index was 46%, compared to 33% in 2020, and 25% in 2018.

Russia was one of the top ten countries in which the index showed record growth over the previous five years. Since 2017, Russia’s score has increased by 26%.

The World Giving Index has been released annually since 2009 by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and Gallup’s World View World Poll.
