People can contact any Russian Post branch for help. Staff will inform the Missing Persons Centre and offer help until relatives, the emergency services or volunteers arrive.

“Safety islands” have been established in all Moscow branch offices, with more than 500 now operating in the capital. Bright orange stickers showing the partners’ logos and a hotline number for the Missing Persons Centre are displayed on all post office doors. This will be the contact point for those who are lost in the city and for people who have met a person who is disoriented and are willing to offer their help.

“Russian Post employees have received special training so know how to respond to these kinds of situations”, according to the company’s press office quoted by TASS.

A member of staff or the branch manager will relay information to the Missing Persons Centre’s 24-hour hotline where a lost person will be checked against their records and the emergency services contacted.

The creation of “safety islands” has been a collaborative effort involving Russian Post and the Missing Persons Centre, supported by the Liza Alert search project.
