A digital archive of clinical imagery to be created in Kazakhstan

According to Tengrinews.kz, Kazakhstan’s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, recently met Rob Walton, CEO of GE Healthcare for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

At the meeting, Walton outlined GE Healthcare’s plans to localise the production of ultrasound machines, to be followed later by scanners, as well as angiograph and mammogram equipment. The Kazakhstan President stated that this initiative would be instrumental in achieving his goal of increasing the share of the domestic manufacture of medicines and medical equipment to 50% by 2025.

Walton also told the President about his organisation’s plan to create a Centralised National Digital Archive of Clinical Imagery of the Kazakhstan Republic. This, he said, will simplify the handling of patient data, resulting in a reduction in the cost of healthcare services.

The organisation will also be running training programmes to improve the skills and qualifications of healthcare personnel through their new GE Healthcare Academy based at Astana Medical University which will begin its work in October this year. The President praised his country’s strategic partnership with GE on delivering important healthcare projects in Kazakhstan.

A Framework Agreement was signed by both men on the practical implementation of the investment project.

GE Healthcare is represented in more than 140 countries, with revenues of $19 billion last year and a market capital value of $34.5 billion.
