LEGO to help children from low-income families and those cared for by charities

The LEGO Group and LEGO Foundation have announced their support for charities and families with children affected by the spread of COVID-19.

On 26 May, the LEGO Group and LEGO Foundation announced they would be providing US$ 50 million for charitable causes in regions where they have a presence, with the aim of helping more than 2,000 Russian children.

LEGO will be setting aside funds for five charitable foundations: “Korablik”, “Our children”, “Dr Clown”, “Konstanta” and “Lighthouse (Mayak Foundation)” which will be used to purchase medical supplies, toys, computers, hygiene and food products. In so doing, LEGO wants to reach out to children in hospital, as well as those living in large, low-income families.

“We know how hard it is for children to learn away from the classroom and adjust to a new home study environment. However, it is possible to encourage a child’s development, albeit remotely, by getting them to play a variety of games. By doing so, children can learn important attributes such as the ability to work together, communication skills and problem solving. For our part, we will do all we can to support, develop and inspire children during these difficult times”, said Niels Christiansen, CEO of the LEGO Group.

LEGO is reminding people that playing games together can be a distraction to self-isolating and quarantining at home. People can increase their family’s leisure activity by logging on to LEGO’s Instagram account or its official website. In addition, their #LetsBuildTogether platform posts new ideas for dice games every day.
