In the first eight and a half months of this year, more than 300 vacancies for people with disabilities have been posted on the hh.ru recruitment platform.

There are positive signs in the Russian labour market regarding the employment of people with disabilities, the RBC media group reports, quoting a recent survey carried out by the job search service hh.ru.

Several sectors lead the way in terms of the number of specialist vacancies, which account for more than 60% of offers for job seekers with disabilities. Among them are:

  • Finance – 31,000;
  • Retail – 24,000;
  • Transport and logistics – 19,000;
  • Business services – 18,000;
  • Construction and housing – 8,000.

However, despite the growth in supply, the actual numbers of disabled people in employment remains low. According to the research, only 11% of Russians work in teams that include people with disabilities, while 73% of respondents said there were no such employees in their team. Only 4% of those surveyed were themselves workers with disabilities. The highest employment rates were in the Far East (15%), Siberia (13%), federal districts and St Petersburg (12%).

The research results show that 51% of workers with disabilities admitted to have received support from colleagues to some extent. Twenty-one percent said they did not need any, with 15% reporting a total lack of support in the workplace. The most common source of assistance was help with job tasks (58%). Another 38% of those surveyed were supported by mentors and 35% received physical help.

Disabled employees also talked about adjusting to the workplace. Fifty-three percent hadn’t experienced any problems, as opposed to 28% who had. Twenty-one percent had difficulties due to a lack of mentoring, 16% said they worked in a very unfriendly environment, with 14% who felt the workplace wasn’t sufficiently adapted to meet the needs of those with disabilities.

Overall, respondents marked the comfort of their working conditions as three out of five and 2.3 for problems finding work.
