New working group on NGOs in Presidential Administration

An expert working group on NGOs will be established in the presidential administration

The Russian authorities intend to create a consultative body in support of the third sector. An expert working group will be created in the presidential administration which will deal with problems linked to the legislation on NGOs in particular, and a service centre which will support new organisations.

At the All-Russian Educational Youth Forum “Terra Scientia”, according to PBK, the first deputy head of the presidential administration Vyacheslav Volodin stated that today the problems associated with NGOs are a priority. According to Volodin, the authorities intend to create a consultative body in support of the third sector. This means an expert working group under the presidential administration and a special service centre which will support established socially oriented NGOs.

Volodin said that the working group under the presidential administration will start work in September. Its task lies in discussing the changes in legislation on NGOs and the issues associated with the transfer of authority when addressing NGO problems at a regional level and at a local government level. Members of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, ministers from the State Duma and employees of the presidential administration, in particular, will form part of the working group.

According to Volodin, the service centre will have different tasks. It will help young people starting up new socially oriented NGOs and assist in solving the everyday problems facing new organisations. The service centre, specifically, will help socially oriented NGOs set up communication with the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, regional authorities and the mass media.
