Social services (provided by 37,000 SONGOs) are their main activity area, together with promoting physical exercise and participation in sports (30,000), and education, awareness-raising and science (26,000).

SONGOs provided help for 66 million people during the course of the year. Of these, 18 million received support for education, 16 million for cultural activities, 15 million for health care, 8 million for social policy issues and 7 million for sports.

SONGOs received a total of 56 billion roubles from the federal budget in 2019, with 862 billion received by NGOs from various sources.
