Results of the competition for annual NGO reports

06.02.2020

In the Public Chamber, prizes were awarded to the authors of the best public reports on NGOs in 2018. The award ceremony was held on 5 February at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. Applications were accepted up to September 30, 2019, and a total of 343 were submitted. The record number of reports submitted to the competition were from NGOs in the Moscow and Omsk Regions, who submitted 60 and 58 applications respectively. They were followed by NGOs in St. Petersburg, Perm, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Ulyanovsk and Tambov.

“We are always very happy when new partners join – it is important for us that the regions pick up the idea, coordinate this work among NGOs that they know better than us, and hold internal regional competitions,” said Alexandra Boldyreva, the Executive Director of the Donors’ Forum.

The organisers noted that the standards of annual reports of NGOs are improving. Some organisations have shown remarkable results by improving by over one or two levels in a year. “An increase in the standard means an increase in the competencies of NGOs in preparing annual reports, which is the main goal of the Reference Point.” We can say that our project has had excellent results, ”concluded Natalya Medvedeva, project manager of the Donors’ Forum.

In addition to the usual awards, the contestants also received awards from partners in the contest. The Agency for Social Information (ASI) awarded the winners of the “Best Text”  – an award for the brevity, engagement and credibility of the report. The “Best Text” award was presented to the Embracing the Sky charity foundation from Omsk (first place), the Second Wind charity foundation from Moscow (second place) and Samara’s Childhood House (third). The prizes were bonus points for selection for an ASI internship for NGOs in Moscow, which will be held from April 13-17, 2020; the publication of material about the organisations in ASI’s projects; and the annual placement of banners on the agency’s website.

The full list of winners of the All-Russian Contest of Voluntary Public Annual Reports of Non-Profit Organizations for 2018 will soon appear on the Donors’ Forum website.

The “Reference Point” is the All-Russian competition of public annual reports of NGOs organised by the Association of Grant Organisations Forum of Donors in partnership with the Agency for Social Information and the Blagosphere Centre with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Presidential Grants Fund. The Association of Programme and Policy Evaluation Specialists is a partner in the nomination “For the best presentation of monitoring and evaluation results.”

The competition aims to increase confidence in the non-profit sector by developing and promoting a culture of transparency and accountability in NGOs, as well as using reporting tools to build communications with stakeholders.
