According to the Charities’ Aid Foundation (CAF), Russians donate an average of 0.66% of their income to charity.

The international organisation CAF carried out a sociological study in 101 countries and published the rankings of charity and generosity in its World Giving Report 2025, according to Dobro.Media. In their research, experts considered all the factors that influence people’s generosity, as well as their financial and non-material support.

Nigeria topped the ratings where people donate an average of 2.83% of their income, followed by Egypt, Ghana, Uganda and China where citizens donate more than 2%. Russia are 75th in the ratings, in between Ireland and Switzerland. Japan is at the bottom, with people donating only 0.16% of their income.

According to the researchers, “the share of charitable contributions is significantly higher in countries where incomes are low”.

In 2023, the CAF presented the results of a study on the involvement of citizens of different countries in charity in 2022 when Russia was ranked 102nd. That year, experts reported a sharp decline in Russia’s participation in charity, with 34% of Russians involved, compared to 46% in 2021.
