The State award is given to human rights activists and philanthropists who have undertaken tireless and successful activities in their field, as well as receiving widespread public recognition for their achievements across Russia.
According to a statement posted on the Kremlin website, applicants for the State award may submit the necessary documentation from 19 November.
Submissions must be sent to the office of the Russian Federation’s Human Rights Ombudsman at 119121 Moscow, Smolensky Boulevard 19, Building no. 2. E-mail: moskalkova@ombudsmanrf.ru.
The submission should be in the form of a letter that includes personal information on the candidate (surname and patronymic name, date and place of birth, home address, citizenship etc.). The letter should also highlight the candidate’s outstanding contribution to the promotion of human rights or charity work. It may also be accompanied by media information on the public recognition of the candidate’s achievements.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 10 February 2022.
Background information
The State award for outstanding achievement in the field of human rights and charity work was first introduced in 2016. Previous winners were: Elizaveta Glinka (Doctor Liza), CEO of the Fair Help charity; Lyudmila Alekseeva, Chair of the Moscow Helsinki Group; the actor Konstantin Khabensky, founder of his own Foundation that provides help to children with oncological and other serious brain injuries, and archpriest Alexander Tkachenko, founder of the first children’s hospice in Russia.
This year, Elena Topoleva-Soldunova, Director of the Agency of Social Information and head of the Federation’s Public Chamber Commission for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector and Support for SONGOs, won the State prize for her human rights work.
