Victims and families of those killed in a drone attack in Moscow Region to be paid compensation

On the night of 11 March, several Russian areas, including Moscow Region, were hit by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with the attack on Moscow being the largest since the start of the war in Ukraine.

 

According to the Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, 74 UAVs were shot down as they approached the capital. Ramenskoye, Domodedovo, Vidnoye and the Moscow district of Kapotnya were among the cities most affected by the raid. Alexey Kuznetsov, the Federation’s Health Minister, said that 18 people had been injured in the attack, including three children.

 

When news of the drone strike broke, it was known that three people had been killed. Two more were operated on in the morning and eight people suffered minor injuries that didn’t require hospital treatment, said Andrey Vorobyov, Governor of Moscow Region.

 

Vorobyov also stated that the victims’ families will receive compensation of one million roubles each, and the injured 100,000 to 500,000 roubles, depending on the severity of their wounds.

 

The men who were killed, aged 38, 47 and 50, were employees of the business company Miratorg and died as a result of injuries sustained when debris from the drone fell on a distribution centre in Domodedovo. Miratorg has said that they will pay compensation of 1.5 million roubles to the victims’ families, as well as covering funeral costs.

 

The Ministry of Defence said that as well as in Moscow Region, drones were shot down over Voronezh, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel and Ryazan oblasts on 11 March. A total of 337 UAVs were destroyed.
