August 2024

Dear friends and colleagues,

In this issue of our newsletter, we bring you the latest updates from our Ukraine Appeal which continues amid the recent tragic attack on a Kyiv hospital, as well as the announcement of projects selected for our 2024 Small Grants Scheme.

We are delighted to invite you to register for our Annual Lecture given by Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman on 23 October as well as announce the theme of this year’s Annual Conference taking place on 29 November.

The preliminary results of our CSO Survey are now available, and we encourage CSO representatives to continue sharing their insights.

Meanwhile, we are seeking a new team member for the role of website assistant.

This edition also features a book review by BEARR Trustee Sam Thorne, covering I Love Russia: Reporting from a Lost Country by Elena Kostyuchenko and Take My Grief Away: Voices from the War in Ukraine by Katerina Gordeeva.

Lastly, we present the final project reports from the 2023 Small Grants Scheme grantees from Kazakhstan and the usual news from the region.

With warm wishes,
The BEARR Trust
