Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection and Russia’s consumer watchdog are to join forces in order to prevent the spread of cholera in Tajikistan. During a video conference, head of Russia’s consumer watchdog Anna Popova and Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection Abdukholik Amirzoda agreed to consolidate the two government bodies’ cooperation, the Russian consumer watchdog reports.
According to Abdukholik Amirzoda, Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection appealed to Russia’s consumer watchdog for support in monitoring the epidemiological situation and in preparing for the possibility of complications in the country’s border regions.
The parties agreed to conduct joint research, and Tajik epidemiology specialists are to receive training in Russia. Russia will also send doctors to Tajikistan where, amongst other duties, they will help to improve the capabilities of the country’s laboratories.
Experts will be sent to Tajikistan from the Rostov-on-Don Anti-Plague Scientific Research Institute, ‘Microbe’ (the Russian Anti-Plague Scientific Research Institute) and the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology.
