Reduced minimum fines for ‘foreign agent’ NGOs?

Government commission approves a reduction in fines for foreign agents

08.10.2014, Moscow

A Government legislative commission has approved a Bill from the Justice Ministry that reduces administrative fines for breaches of the “foreign agents” law, according to the Press Office of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Justice Ministry had earlier proposed a Bill to reduce the minimum level of administrative fines for NGOs that break the “foreign agents” law. In implementing the decision of the Russian Federation’s Constitutional Court (which found it necessary to amend the level of fines for breaches of the law), the Ministry has proposed reducing the minimum administrative fine for officials and judicial officers to 50,000 and 100,000 roubles respectively. The Bill is to be considered at a Government meeting in the near future.
