The Russian Government approves an Action Strategy for Senior Citizens

At a meeting with his deputies, Russia’s Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, announced that the Council of Ministers had approved a strategy which includes measures that will support senior citizens up until 2030. According to the PM, the document envisages the implementation of a series of actions to improve the quality of life of elderly people.
For example, this will involve a pension increase, with a commitment in the strategy to index insurance pensions twice a year from 2026. From 1 February, the amount will be based on the previous year’s consumer price index, and from 1 April by taking into account Social Fund revenues for the previous year.
There are also plans to expand early diagnosis techniques for preventing various diseases, including home check-ups. There will also be improvements in drugs’ supplies, together with a range of studies aimed at determining biological age and slowing down the ageing process.
Among the strategy’s main objectives are to prolong active, healthy longevity, create the conditions for realising the individual potential of senior citizens, and encourage their participation in society.
Implementation of a long-term care system across the country will also continue apace. According to the Prime Minister’s figures, such support is currently used by 170,000 people and there are plans to increase this figure to 500,000 in six years.
“It is also important that interesting leisure activities are organised for senior citizens, including sports, creative pursuits and learning new skills. Senior citizens could also try their hand at volunteering or mentoring. They need to be supported so that they can pass on their knowledge and experience and always be in demand”, said Mishustin.
