This initiative was proposed by the Council’s speaker, Valentina Matvienko, at a parliamentary hearing that discussed healthy nutrition for young children (from birth up to three years of age).
Matvienko said that such information and an analytical database were needed in order “to establish a clear picture of those in need”. According to the deputy, the database should include types of food, as well as child diagnoses. This, in her view, will help in predicting and monitoring morbidity rates using nosological methodology, as well as accurate estimates of consumers who use such foods and understand the size of the market.
“Healthy eating is often needed over several months to achieve lasting remission. If the first two to three months in the first year of a child’s life are neglected, it is possible that chronic disease may already have developed and so require long-term medical treatment”, said Matvienko.
