Elderly residents evacuated from care home to safety and provided with food
A care home for 29 vulnerable elderly people lost its electricity after their local town in northern Ukraine came under attack. Heavy fighting in the town prevented food deliveries from reaching them and they couldn’t buy a generator because delivering it to their building was too dangerous. They had to heat the home by burning wood.
Their carers begged for help with evacuating them. Thanks to funds sent within 24 hours by the BEARR Trust, food and essentials were bought for them, and transport was arranged for them to be evacuated to western Ukraine.
One person has unfortunately died, but 28 elderly people are now safe in an old school, but with poor conditions. The BEARR Trust is sending more funds, to help provide food and medicines, and to buy beds for those who do not yet have them.
