NGO leaders join working group on constitutional change

Representatives of non-profit organisations have been invited to participate in suggesting amendments to the Russian Constitution.

Amongst others, the working group includes:

– Elena Alshanskaya, president of the Volunteers to Support Orphans Foundation

– Lev Ambinder, president of Rusfond

– Olga Amelchenkova, chair of the Volunteers for Victory national civic movement

– Alexander Kalinin, president of OPORA Russia – the NGO for small and medium sized businesses

– Irina Kirkora, director of the non-profit organization Author’s Centre for the World of the Family, and head of the Moscow branch of ‘Assol’ – an interregional public organization for the protection of women and children’s rights

– Grigory Ledkov, president of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia

– Lydia Mikheeva, secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation

– Yulia Ogloblina, chair of the central council of the Russian Union of Rural Youth

– Vladimir Solovyov, chair of the Russian Union of Journalists

– Elena Tsunaeva, secretary of Russia’s Search Movement, which commemorates those who died in defence of their country

– Alexander Shokhin, president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP)

The group also includes members of the federal and regional parliaments, officials, academics, celebrated actors, doctors, and others.  A full list is published on the Kremlin’s website.

Elena Alshanskaya, of the Volunteers to Support Orphans Foundation, confirmed on Facebook that she had accepted the invitation to participate in drafting the amendments.

‘I didn’t request this and was informed very recently. I didn’t refuse. Perhaps I can be of some use (at least from the point of view of harm reduction),’ she commented.
