Support Ukrainian Refugees in the UK: HealthProm Appeal
Our friends at HealthProm have launched an appeal to support Ukrainian refugees arriving in North London, many of whom are women and children without relatives, friends or any form of financial support here in the UK.
HealthProm has been supporting vulnerable children, women and families in the UK, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Afghanistan for 35 years, enabling them to overcome the barriers of poverty, social exclusion or disability.
From the start of the war, their team of dedicated volunteers have used their years of expertise and experience to provide free English language classes, information on education and healthcare, peer group support, mental health services and employment advice to over 200 women who have fled Ukraine. Yet the demand is growing, and HealthProm now has more than 600 women registered on its database in need of emotional, social, employment and legal support.
Since the launch of our own Emergency appeal, BEARR has been working closely with HealthProm, who kindly put us in touch with their partners in Ukraine supporting adults and children with disabilities. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to fund four organisations HealthProm has previously worked with in Ukraine. As BEARR’s work does not cover refugees arriving in the UK, we would like to encourage all those looking to support Ukrainians arriving in London to donate to HealthProm’s appeal.
Until now, all HealthProm’s work with Ukrainians in the UK has been done entirely by volunteers and without any funding. They are now in need of financial support to pay for more English classes and to organise regular activities for Ukrainian refugees in and around North London, so they feel welcomed and at home in a new country. HealthProm are working with Islington and Camden Councils to ensure a coordinated approach.
A donation of £10 could cover the cost of an information pack, signposting new arrivals to the help and support available. Meanwhile, £25 could pay for one group session, enabling Ukrainian refugees to come together in a safe and welcoming space, £50 could pay for a private counselling session, and £100 could cover the costs of specialist legal and immigration advice for one family.
