On Monday 7 November internationally recognised expert on espionage, subversion, the use and abuse of history, energy security and information warfare, Edward Lucas, gave this year’s Autumn Lecture, “Putin’s War: What’s the Endgame?”, via Zoom.
All proceeds from the event went towards The BEARR Trust’s Ukraine Emergency Winter Appeal, to buy emergency supplies for vulnerable and displaced people in Ukraine and Moldova.
About the Speaker
Edward Lucas is a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA).
He was formerly a senior editor at The Economist. Lucas has covered Central and Eastern European affairs since 1986, writing, broadcasting, and speaking on the politics, economics, and security of the region.
A graduate of the London School of Economics and long-serving foreign correspondent in Berlin, Vienna, Moscow, and the Baltic states, he is an internationally recognised expert on espionage, subversion, the use and abuse of history, energy security and information warfare.
He is the author of five books: The New Cold War (2008, revised and republished in 2014); Deception (2011); The Snowden Operation (2014), Cyberphobia (2015), and Spycraft Rebooted: How Technology is Changing Espionage (2018).

BEARR’s lectures are the organisation’s main fundraising events. We therefore ask guests for a suggested donation of £10 per person, or £5 for full-time students and unwaged persons. All proceeds will go towards BEARR’s Ukraine Emergency Winter Appeal to buy emergency supplies for civil society organisations supporting vulnerable groups and displaced people in Ukraine and Moldova this winter.
