Psychologists and lawyers discuss the causes of stalking, the experiences of victims and ways of protecting yourself as part of the “You are not a fake” project .
The Okko online cinema and the “You are not alone” initiative have launched a special project on stalking, cyberstalking and cyberbullying. Their website contains information on what stalking is, why stalkers behave in this way, and what to do if you find yourself being stalked.
The experts include lawyers and psychologists. A post appeared on the “You are not alone” Telegram channel in which a psychologist and consultant specialising in the integrative approach, Maria Ozerova, analyses the psychology of stalking. In particular, she examines how anxiety and fear of the unknown can turn feelings into obsessive stalking and why it can be difficult for a person to accept rejection. The website also features stories from victims and guidance on how to recognise potential dangers and protect oneself.
In the report The Latest Cyberstalking Statistics published in 2024 it states that around 7.5 million people have been victims of cyberstalking. Eighty per cent are being tracked using technology, 67% encounter face-to-face harassment, and more than 60% of children worldwide have been affected by this phenomenon. According to the Kaspersky Lab, one in seven Russians have been subject to online stalking.
