The competition’s total grant fund is more than 500,000 Euros.

On 17 June, CAF, with support from the European Union, announced that an NGO competition would be held under the theme: “EU solidarity with Russian civil society in helping senior citizens and people with disabilities”. The aim of the competition is to help these vulnerable social groups during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The situation with COVID-19 is an example of the global community pooling its resources in the fight against the virus. Thanks to the support from the European Union and other European countries, professional NGOs will be able to help large numbers of people to resume normal life more quickly after the lifting of coronavirus-related restrictions”, said Maria Chertok, CAF’s Director.

In addition to the EU’s support, several other countries such as Belgium, Estonia, Italy and Switzerland have made their own contributions.

In order to take part, Russian NGOs that help the elderly and people with disabilities must submit an application. These will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis until such time as the competition’s total funds are exhausted. The grant amount for each NGO is 12,000 Euros.

“Help required during the pandemic includes contactless food, household items and PPE deliveries, as well as psychological support, medical advice and assistance with patient care. At least 40 organisations are expected to receive funding which will be used to provide direct support to at least 5,000 citizens”, said CAF.
