All-Russian Congress of Children’s Ombudsmen to take place in May 2016

Next year’s Congress is being convened amid reports from Pavel Astakhov, the Russian President’s Children’s Rights Commissioner, of increasing instances of parents and relatives asking for help in hospitalising their seriously ill children for prosthetic care and to provide necessary medication, as well as assistance in having medical quotas made available for their children’s treatment.

Novosti reports that the Congress will be held in Rostov-on-Don in May next year. Astakhov, has said that discussions will concentrate on problems related to access to medical care and protecting the rights of children to ensure they receive high quality medical attention. He also admitted that the current situation regarding the rights of children to proper health care is far from ideal.
