Dutch human rights organisation fails re-registration

According to RIA Novosti, the Federal Registration Service has rejected the re-registration of the Dutch human rights organisation “ Legal Initiatives in Russia”. A representative of Rosregistratzia said that the organisation’s application had not been made in the prescribed way, and had therefore been returned for revision in accordance with the law. The application would then be re-considered.

“Legal Initiatives in Russia” is involved with the defence of human rights in Chechnya, and provides free legal aid. It also helps individuals to prepare cases for submission to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
