International Social Business Day in Russia encourages social entrepreneurship
Between 25 May and 2 July, events surrounding International Social Business Day will be held throughout Russia.
This has been celebrated since 2010, and was initiated by economics professor, social entrepreneur, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus. The events to be held in Russia will bring together social entrepreneurs and representatives of public organisations, as well as of the state authorities. The organiser is the ‘Our Future’ regional social programmes foundation, together with the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Russian Microfinance Centre.
‘Every year professionals are showing increasing interest in events connected with this day. Since 2013 over half a million people have attended a total of 518 events,’ said Natalia Zvereva, director of the ‘Our Future’ Foundation.
This year the organisers plan to address issues relating to the development of social entrepreneurship in Russia and to discuss regional initiatives. Add your event to the calendar via the official website.
In addition, a nationwide event focusing on ‘Changing the World’ will be taking place in Russia for the second time. Participants will report in social media about initiatives they have taken, with the intention of motivating others to address their own social responsibilities. Last year more than two thousand people took part. Five selected winners will receive prizes. To participate, publish a post using hashtag #yamenyayumir and name three friends.
‘Our Future’ is the first organisation in the country to offer comprehensive support to social entrepreneurs. It was founded in 2007 by businessman Vagit Alekperov. The Foundation awards an ‘Urge to Do Good’ prize for the best contribution to the development and promotion of social entrepreneurship. Those qualified to receive the prize include social entrepreneurs, representatives of public organizations, the heads of state agencies and specialized departments, journalists, the mass media and universities in the Russian Federation.
