A new NGO has been created by order of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.

According to a Presidential Decree published on the Government’s legal information website, the NGO “Russia – land of opportunity” has been established with the aim of increasing social mobility and encouraging people’s personal and professional self-development. The founder of the NGO is the Office of the Russian President and its assets will be funded from the State budget as well as by voluntary contributions and donations; it is to be registered within a month.

According to Kommersant, the online platform “Russia – land of opportunity” was created last year at the initiative of Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Russian President’s Office. It has launched 14 projects including the “Let’s manage!” initiative (a management competition for students) and a programme for disabled people entitled Abilimpiks.

The decision to create this NGO as part of the President’s Office has been taken to ensure the continuity of projects and implementation of the social elevation system. It will act as a dedicated project manager, as well as coordinating initiatives at regional level, said Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of the Higher School of Economics in an interview with TASS.

“This is about a new organisation with a mandate to create a constantly active platform and growing network of youth projects”, added Kuzminov.
