Putin establishes Council for Protection of Families and Children

A new Presidential Council for Families and Children will monitor the implementation of activities planned for the Decade of Children.
The Order, which has been written by the Russian President, states that “The Consultative Presidential Council will promote cooperation between federal and regional agencies, as well
as local Government bodies and public, scientific and other organisations with an interest in the protection of families and children”.
The Council will comprise Government officials and public figures including Valentina Matvienko, Chair of the Federation Council; Tatyana Golikova, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister; Yevgeny Bunimovich, Moscow’s Children’s Rights Commissioner; Dmitry Valyukov, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Non-Profit Foundation for the Prevention of Serious Social Diseases and Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle “A Healthy Country”; Anna Kuznetsova, the Federation’s Children’s Rights Commissioner; Xenia Frank, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Foundation and Alexander Tkachenko, CEO of the “Children’s Hospice” NGO.
The role of the Council will be to develop proposals for the Russian President that will help improve State family and child protection policies.
The Presidential Decree also specifies the issues which the Council will be expected to consider, with meetings to be held at least twice a year. Decisions will be submitted to Vladimir Putin, the Government, the State Duma and to State authorities of the Federation’s constituent entities. The document will also be published on both the Kremlin’s and Council’s official websites.
